About us

Our History

We began some years ago at the University of Genoa (Italy). After some time of dedication by Federico Pitto, who put up the first database, Marco Borinato, a graduate student of the Engineering Department, developed the site, until we gave it to R&PInformatica for a more suitable organisation. We are now working on   PhilVideos-org  (using the API of PhilPapers.org plus new metadata we have created) and plan to make it available in 2022.

We became a non-profit society on the wonderful palindromic day of 12.02.2021

The Team

Alessandra: Having completed my master’s degree in General Management, I am an expert in Marketing B2C and B2B, E-business, Economics, Management, and Business Administration. I have been working since 2018 as General Manager of Armitaly. Webpage:

Carlo: I teach theory of communication at the University of Genoa. Visiting Pittsburgh University, London Institute of Philosophy and some of the oldest Universities such as Bologna, Cambridge, and Oxford made me think we live now in another era. Maybe we need more videos and less haughtiness. My latest motto? “I do not teach. I relate” (Michel de Montaigne). I am still doing aikido training and tai chi on my terrace. Fabio:
I teach philosophy and history in high school, guided by Ludwig Wittgenstein’s motto: “what can be said at all can be said clearly”. I obtained a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Genoa and I was a visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York, where I learned that being in a place where you can do everything (even if you don’t) is the most important thing in life.

Joaquim: I am a postdoctoral researcher in Philosophy at the Universidad de Chile, a lecturer at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, and a research associate at FraMEPhys. My work mainly focuses on causal powers, fundamentality, and metaphysical grounding. When I don’t do philosophy, I lift heavy objects at the gym.

Laura:I am the Sarah Smithson Research Fellow at Newnham College, University of Cambridge. Before joining Newnham, I held positions as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University (Milan) and as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Pavia. My research is primarily in social philosophy of language, an emerging subdiscipline that draws together philosophy of language, feminist philosophy, and social philosophy. When I am not doing philosophy, I enjoy playing the piano and listening to Bach.

Manuela: I’m a bookkeeper with a background in Counselling and Social Anthropology, as you do these days. I’ve lived and worked in several countries and am always curious to get involved in new activities and ventures. Doing several jobs at one go seems to be my norm, even when I try to just stick to one, and PhilVideos is an exciting project and concept to be a part of!

Nicolò:
I combined my Master in Philosophy of Language and my activity as a videomaker/screenwriter. Philosophical studies give me access to a conceptual universe I try to fix on my videos. I face every project with the enthusiasm of a child and the skills of an expert, although, unfortunately, I am no longer a child and not yet an expert. Here is my portfolio and list of artistic experience:

Orsola:
I started as a teacher in primary school even though I have a master’s degree in Methods in Philosophy – which surprisingly has helped me a lot teaching maths to 7-year-old kids! After a traineeship I took in Barcelona in the marketing and communication field, now I work as a support teacher in high school in Genoa.
I collaborate with a few magazines since I like photography and writing too, and I am proudly part of the Philvideos team. My motto? “Nothing can go wrong” – often used in the worst situation.

Stefano:
My mission has always been to make information technology a useful tool in everyday practice: to encourage people to use everything digital, from a simple Excel spreadsheet to a business management system or e-commerce. My Linkedin page: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stefano-riggi-7217a71aa/
